1 Year Anniversary

After his death, Jackson became the best-selling artist of 2009 in the United States selling over 8.2 million albums and 31 million albums worldwide. Following this surge in sales, Sony announced that they had extended their relationship with his material. On March 16, 2010, Sony Music Entertainment, spearheaded by its Columbia/Epic Label Group division, signed a new deal with the Jackson estate to extend their distribution rights to his back catalogue until at least 2017, as well as to obtain permission to release ten new albums with previously unreleased material and new collections of released work.
The first new album is reportedly due out in November 2010, and the final album before December 2017. Billboard estimates that Jackson’s estate generated $1 billion in the 12 months that followed his death.

Tamperer feat Maya – Feel It 2009

Posted in Michael Jackson, Tamperer on August 18th, 2009 by hbradley

The Tamperer featuring Maya was an Italian-American dance music group consisting of Italian record producers Mario Fargetta and Alex Farolfi, and American singer Maya Days. Later, Giuliano Saglia and GianLuca Mensi would join the project. In 1998 they became famous for their debut single “Feel It”, a UK number one hit single taken from their album Fabulous. “Feel it” was written by the American team of Steve Gittelman and Jim Dyke and relied heavily on a sample of the Jacksons hit “Can You Feel It”.
The album spawned two more singles, “If You Buy This Record Your Life Will Be Better” (based on a sample from Madonna’s “Material Girl”), and the Italy-only release “Step Out”, which was later included as a B-side on their fourth and final single, “Hammer to the Heart” (based on a sample from Abba’s “Gimme Gimme Gimme”).

Michael Jackson – Thriller Remixes

Posted in Michael Jackson on July 7th, 2009 by hbradley

Sales are estimated to be between 47–109 million copies sold worldwide. Seven of the album’s nine songs were released as singles, and all reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album won a record-breaking eight Grammy Awards at the 1984 Grammys. Despite numerous five-star reviews, Thriller was not universally praised.
Thriller cemented Jackson’s status as one of the predominant pop stars of the late 20th century, and enabled him to break down racial barriers via his appearances on MTV and meetings with President Ronald Reagan at the White House. The album was one of the first to use music videos as successful promotional tools—the videos for “Thriller”, “Billie Jean” and “Beat It” all received regular rotation on MTV. In 2001, a special edition issue of the album was released, which contains additional audio interviews, a demo recording and the song “Someone In the Dark”, which was a Grammy-winning track from the E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial storybook. In 2008, the album was reissued again as Thriller 25, containing re-mixes that feature contemporary artists, a previously unreleased song and a DVD.
Thriller ranked number 20 on Rolling Stone magazine’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list in 2003, and was listed by the National Association of Recording Merchandisers at number three in its Definitive 200 Albums of All Time. Thriller was preserved by the Library of Congress to the National Recording Registry, as it was deemed “culturally significant”.

Michael Jackson R.I.P

Posted in Michael Jackson on June 26th, 2009 by hbradley

Well I wanted to say some words for Michael Jackson, dead today at 50 from a heart attack..but I’m actually speechless. I grew up listening to Michael. My first single I bought was ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ and have bought every album and single he has released since right up to his Thriller relaunch. Despite some questionable behaviour on his part, in his time, he was a visionary. I can rememeber the chills I had down my spine when he first did his moonwalk and how in the Thriller/Dangerous days how each video was a event.
I have never seen Michael Jackson live and was looking forward to see him in London.
So….goodbye to MJ…thank you for you musical journey. RIP
