Hung Up

“Hung Up” prominently features a sample of the pop group ABBA’s hit single “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight),” for which Madonna personally sought permission from ABBA songwriters Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. Musically the song is influenced by 1980s pop, with a chugging groove and chorus and a background element of a ticking clock that suggests the fear of wasting time. Lyrically the song is written as a traditional dance number about a strong, independent woman who has relationship troubles.
“Hung Up” received critical praise from reviewers, who suggested that the track should restore the singer’s popularity, which had diminished following the release of her 2003 album American Life. Critics suggested it was her best dance track to date and have compared it favorably to other Madonna tracks in the same genre. They also complimented the effective synchronization of the ABBA sample with the actual song. “Hung Up” became a worldwide commercial success, peaking atop the charts of 41 countries and earning a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. It was Madonna’s 36th top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100, tying her with Elvis Presley as the artist with most top ten hits. It also became the most successful dance song of the decade in the United States. “Hung Up” remains one of the best-selling singles of all time, with sales of over nine million copies worldwide.
Madonna has performed the song in a number of live appearances, including as the finale number in 2006′s Confessions Tour and a heavy metal-inspired arrangement in the 2008 Sticky & Sweet Tour. The corresponding music video is a tribute to John Travolta, his movies and to dancing in general. Directed by Johan Renck, the clip starts with Madonna clad in a pink leotard dancing alone in a ballet studio and concludes at a gaming parlor where she dances with her backup troupe. Interspersed are scenes of people displaying their dancing skills in a variety of settings, including a Los Angeles residential neighbourhood, a small restaurant and the London Underground.

Britney – Criminal (2nd Adventure Remixes)

Posted in Britney Spears on October 5th, 2011 by H Bradley

“Criminal” is a song by American recording artist Britney Spears, released as the fourth single from her seventh studio album, Femme Fatale. It was written and produced by Max Martin and Shellback, with additional writing by Tiffany Amber. After Spears first listened to the song, she felt it was different and unlike anything she had heard before. She posted a snippet of it online on March 2, 2011, prior to the album’s release. “Criminal” was chosen as a single by a poll on Spears’ Facebook page, and she announced the release after the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. The artwork for the single was released on September 14, 2011.
Considered the only ballad of the album, “Criminal” is a guitar-driven midtempo song, which incorporates a folk-style flute melody. It is influenced by the works of ABBA and Madonna. In the song, Spears sings about being in love with an outlaw and pleads to her mother to not worry about their relationship. “Criminal” received positive critical appreciation, with reviewers praising its organic and refreshing feel in comparison with the rest of the album. After the release of Femme Fatale, the song charted on the South Korean International chart.
The accompanying music video for the song was filmed in Stoke Newington, London and directed by Chris Marrs Piliero. It is set to follow the relationship between a woman in upper society and her lover. Prior to its release, the Hackney London Borough Council criticized Spears for “promoting gun violence” in the area.
