Steps are a British pop group created by manager Tim Byrne and writers Steve Crosby and Barry Upton, consisting of members Lee Latchford-Evans, Claire Richards, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer, and Ian “H” Watkins. Formed on 6 May 1997, Steps recorded a total of three studio albums, two compilation albums, released sixteen singles throughout their career. Hailed as the ABBA of the 1990s, their musical approach throughout the course of their career had a strong 1990s pop sound, similar to many artists of their time. Their name was based around a simple marketing gimmick: each of their music videos was choreographed, and the dance steps were included with most of their single releases.
Over the five years they were together, Steps achieved a series of charting singles between 1997 and 2001 including 2 number one singles in the UK, 2 number one albums in the UK, 14 consecutive top 5 singles in the UK and a string of hits throughout Europe. The group have sold over 10 million records and 2 million concert tickets worldwide in addition to acquiring a BRIT Award nomination in 1999 for Best Newcomer while supporting Britney Spears on the UK leg of her tour the same year. However, when group members Clare Richards and Ian “H” Watkins departed the group, the group disbanded on 26 December 2001. Their penultimate single reached number-five in the UK charts while their final album of greatest hits, Gold (2001), scored the band their second number one album in the UK.
The group reformed in May 2011 for a four-part documentary series on Sky Living titled Steps: The Reunion. The series started airing on 28 September, following an announcement of a second Greatest Hits album The Ultimate Collection to be released on 10 October with a new recorded track.

Prefab British dance-pop quintet Steps were assembled in 1997 from the thousands of applicants who responded to an advertisement placed in the magazine The Stage; in the wake of extensive auditions, singers Lisa Scott-Lee, Ian “H” Watkins, Claire Richards, Lee Latchford-Evans, and Faye Tozer all made the final cut. Steps’ debut single, “5-6-7-8,” soon followed, falling just shy of the U.K. Top Ten and topping the charts in Belgium; a cover of Bananarama’s “Last Thing on My Mind” followed in the spring of 1998, reaching number six in Britain. “One for Sorrow” was Steps’ biggest hit to date, and led to the release of their debut album, Step One; their Christmas single, the double-sided “Heartbeat”/”Tragedy,” became their first UK number one in early 1999. Beyonce – Best Thing I Never Had

Posted in Beyonce on October 11th, 2011 by H Bradley

An R&B-pop song, “Best Thing I Never Had” has lyrics about revenge and karma. Not wanting to end up broken-hearted, the female protagonist relates that she feels happy to have parted from her love interest who did not recognize the potential of leading a happy life beside her. Critical reception towards “Best Thing I Never Had” has been generally positive; several music critics noted that its theme and style bear resemblance to Knowles’ 2006 single, “Irreplaceable”. Knowles’ vocals and the lyrical content of the song were also complimented. However, the inclusion of lines, including “showed your ass”, were criticised.
The accompanying music video for the single was by Diane Martel. In the video, Knowles is seen getting ready for her wedding. She recalls how her ex-love interest who never gave her the attention she deserved. Critics generally praised Knowles as looking stunning in the bridal suite and commended her ability to sing directly to the camera, affirming the subject of the song that she was the best he ever had. “Best Thing I Never Had” was promoted by several live performances of Knowles, notably at the 2011 Glastonbury Festival, on the televised show.

Queen – I Want To Break Free

Posted in Queen on October 11th, 2011 by H Bradley

The song is largely known for its music video for which all the band members dressed in women’s clothes, a concept proposed by Roger Taylor, which parodied the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street. Mercury also wore women’s outfits in many live performances of the song. The second part of the video included a composition rehearsed and performed with the Royal Ballet and choreographed by Wayne Eagling. Whereas the parody was acclaimed in the UK, it was considered controversial in the US and banned by MTV and other stations. After its release in 1984 the single of the song was well received all over Europe and South America, where it was listed within top ten and regarded as an anthem of fight against oppression. The single reached only the 45th position in the US charts, but reached number 3 in the UK and was certified gold with 400,000+ copies sold.

Will Young is releasing his cover of the 2009 Kish Mauve record “Come On” as the second single from his new album Echoes – you may know a song Kish Mauve co-wrote by the name of “All The Lovers” which was released last year by mighty Aphrodite Kylie Minogue. Will delivers a brilliant rendition of the edgy electro-POP tune, a standout on the album that rightfully deserves the single treatment.
