“Spinning Around” is a dance–pop song produced by Mike Spencer and written by Ira Shickman, Osborne Bingham, Kara DioGuardi and Paula Abdul. It was originally intended for Paula Abdul’s “comeback” album. However, as the album never came into fruition, it was given to Australian singer Kylie Minogue for her seventh studio album Light Years in 2000. For Minogue, the song was a worldwide success, charting high in many countries, and, marking her return to the forefront of pop music.

Possibly the most eagerly awaited release of her career, “Spinning Around” achieved gold status in Australia prior to the album being released. The first single from her Light Years album, caused a sensation by propelling Minogue back to the top of the charts, debuting at No. 1 in both the UK and Australia. In the United Kingdom, “Spinning Around” has sold 245,000 copies, being certified Silver.
