It is mostly a solo sung by the main character of the show, Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West), with two small duets at the beginning and in the middle of the song between Elphaba and her friend Glinda, and a chorus part in the end in which the citizens of Oz sing. Kylie – Your Disco Needs You

Posted in Kylie on September 17th, 2009 by hbradley

“Your Disco Needs You” is a Disco song written by Australian singer Kylie Minogue, Guy Chambers and Robbie Williams for Minogue’s seventh album Light Years (2000). It was produced by Chambers and Steve Power.

The song was released as the fifth single in the beginning of 2001, in select territories and was a top twenty hit in Australia, peaking at number twenty.
The release of the song outside the UK angered many of Minogue’s fans and sparked protests outside her UK record company from fans lobbying for its release. When considering the fourth single to be released from Light Years, Minogue’s record label chose the Latin sounding “Please Stay” instead of the fan favourite “Your Disco Needs You”, due to the song’s campness and to avoid Minogue being further stereotyped.
Although the song did not have the same chart performance as many of Minogue’s previous and later singles, it became a classic performance piece and also a club hit in Europe including the United Kingdom and Eastern/Baltic European states.
In March 2008, SameSame.com.au listed the song at number five in “The 50 Gayest Songs Of All Time”.

Her biggest popular album in 1976′s Are You Ready For Love?, and the disco single “From New York to L.A.” (which, in fact, took its melody from Gilles Vigneault’s “Mon Pays” and peaked at #6 in the UK Singles Chart in late 1977). “Sugar Daddy” and the album’s title track were also popular hits as well, and helped Gallant win Juno Awards for Best Female Vocalist in 1976 and 1977. “From New York to L.A.” and “Sugar Daddy” also became hits in American discos. She followed up with the French Besoin d’amour in 1977, which included a French rendition of “Sugar Daddy”. She also hosted another television variety show, this time on CTV, in 1978 and 1979.

SET FOR AN OCTOBER 5TH RELEASE

New York, NY — Backstreet Boys are very proud to announce the release of their new album, This Is Us. Set for an October 5th release on Jive Records, This Is Us is the seventh studio album from this groundbreaking and chart topping group that redefined the modern musical landscape, ushering in a chapter of pop culture that commandeered the world’s radio airwaves, broke music and concert sales records, and launched a new generation of teen idols. Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and AJ McLean collaborated with a powerhouse suite of producers and songwriters on This Is Us that included T-Pain, Max Martin, RedOne, Soulshock and Karlin, Jim Jonsin and Claude Kelly. The end result is an indelible and finely crafted R&B; and pop album from four talented musicians who love what they do and who maintain the rare relevance in an industry that often disposes of pop acts.
The 11 songs that make up This Is Us are the sounds of four skilled singers with a similar vision, who have dealt with the trials and tribulations that accompany fame at an early age and who came out as one of the most successful groups of all time. From the undeniable dance floor ready lead single, “Straight Through My Heart”(click on link to stream) to the reflective soar of “Bigger,” from the hook crazy “Bye Bye Love” to the romantic yearning of “She’s A Dream,” This Is Us shows remarkable growth as songwriters and continues to give us songs that has made millions smile.
“We’re really excited to release this new album and know that our fans are excited too. We worked with a group of amazing artists and producers that we’ve never worked with before, exploring new sounds and territory and know the final product turned out incredible” says Carter.
Backstreet Boys plan on spending the second half of 2009 and all of 2010 on the road. A European tour has already been announced and a full North American headlining tour will be announced shortly. Tour dates can be found on the group’s official website www.backstreetboys.com.

Alphabeat – The Spell

New single out Oct 12th
New album out Oct 19th

‘Madonna meets Shannon with Black Box keyboards with a 90s sped-up Scandipop backbeat. It’s amazing’ Popjustice Aug 2009

The wonky power-pop six-piece are back with a new album called ‘The Spell’ released on October 19th through Polydor Records. Alphabeat leave behind their Duran Duran/B52s-esque guise (influences which defined their critically acclaimed debut album ‘This Is Alphabeat’), channelling instead this time the spirit and sound of the best dance hits of the late eighties and early nineties a la Snap! and Black Box.

Alphabeat will release the first single from the new album, a retro dance-pop rave-o-rama also called ‘The Spell’, a week earlier on October 12th.

Alphabeat have mastered the art of taking influences from pop classics of the past and reinterpreting the sound into unique modern smash hit singles. The whole band wrote and produced the entire album, holing themselves up in their basement studio for several months experimenting with old record samples and retro synth programming to create the perfect pop record. They also enlisted the services of six-time Grammy award winning mixer Serban Ghenea (one of the best mixers in the business – Justin Timberlake, Pink, La Roux).

Track titles revealed by the band so far include: ‘The Spell’, ‘DJ’, ‘Heart Failure’, and ‘Chess’.

Grease became the biggest box-office hit of 1978 and remained popular enough that it was re-released in theaters on its 20th anniversary in 1998. The soundtrack spent 12 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 and yielded three Top 5 singles for Newton-John: the No. 1 “You’re The One That I Want” (with John Travolta), the No. 3 “Hopelessly Devoted To You,” and the No. 5 “Summer Nights” (with John Travolta and the film’s cast).
Newton-John’s performance earned her a People’s Choice award for Favorite Motion Picture Actress. She was also nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Actress in a Musical and performed the Oscar-nominated “Hopelessly Devoted To You” at the 1979 Academy Awards. To this day, the soundtrack still sells several thousand copies per week and often appears on Billboard’s Soundtracks chart.

The Saturdays – Remixes

Posted in The Saturdays on September 9th, 2009 by hbradley

The Saturdays are signed to Fascination Records, a sub-label of Polydor Records. Their album, Chasing Lights, was recorded during May and June 2008 with input from multiple producers and writers, including Ina Wroldsen and Alex Cartana. The group supported Girls Aloud on their Tangled Up Tour before the release of their first single, “If This Is Love“. The single was released in July 2008 and peaked at number 8 on the UK Singles Chart.
The second single, “Up“, was released in October 2008 and peaked at number 5. Also in October, the album Chasing Lights was released to generally mixed reviews. The album peaked at number 9 on the UK Albums Chart. The third single, “Issues“, was released in January 2009 and reached number four.
In January, the group released their fourth single, a cover of the Depeche Mode song “Just Can’t Get Enough” as one of the official Comic Relief 2009 singles, released on digital sales, 1 March, and on physical sales, 2 March. On 8 March 2009, the single peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart, just behind Flo Rida’s single Right Round, making this the first Comic Relief single not to reach number one since 1994. However, this is their highest charting single.
The song also was the girl’s third consecutive top twenty hit in Ireland, breaking into the top ten at number 9 in its second week of release, giving them their first top ten single and their first top ten appearance in a foreign music market.
The group have also confirmed that they will be doing their own tour in 2009 – “The Work Tour”, which will coincide with the release of their fifth single, “Work”. The single ended up peaking in the UK outside of the top twenty at #22, making “Work” the band’s lowest charting single. The single is not in the UK Top 40 as of 2 August 2009.

It has been confirmed that the group will release its second album Colonial Masses on 26 October with the first single ‘Forever Is Over‘ released on 5 October. The video for “Forever Is Over” was leaked onto YouTube on 22nd August 2009.
