Jsto feat Alison Jiear – I Just Wanna Fucking Dance

Posted in Jsto on August 25th, 2009 by hbradley

Jerry Springer: The Opera is a British musical written by Stewart Lee and Richard Thomas, based on the television show The Jerry Springer Show. The musical is notable for its profanity, its irreverent treatment of Judeo-Christian themes, and surreal images such as a troupe of tap-dancing Ku Klux Klan members. The musical is completely sung through, with the exceptions of title character, Jerry, who speaks, and a brief speech by the character Steve.
The musical ran for 609 performances in London from April 2003 to February 2005 before touring the UK in 2006. The production won four Laurence Olivier Awards including Best New Musical. The musical received a number of American regional theatre productions and made its New York City debut on January 29 and January 30, 2008 at Carnegie Hall. Harvey Keitel starred as Jerry Springer.
Jerry Springer: The Opera was the subject of controversy beginning in January 2005, when its UK television broadcast on BBC Two elicited 55,000 complaints. The organisation Christian Voice led street protests against the screening at nine BBC offices and announced their intention to bring blasphemy charges, due to the depictions of the Judeo-Christian characters in Act II. The Christian Institute attempted to bring a private prosecution against the BBC, but the Magistrates Court refused to issue a summons, a decision which was later upheld by the High Court of Justice. Protests continued at tour venues in 2006 and on the internet.

Liquid Gold – Dance Yourself Dizzy

Posted in Liquid Gold on August 18th, 2009 by hbradley

Liquid Gold was formed by Ray Knott and Ellie Hope, who had met auditioning to play in Babe Ruth, a group that released four albums between 1972 and 1975. Both of them worked on the band’s last album, Kid Stuff. They then recruited Wally Rothe (who is currently in a relationship with Loose Women presenter Jane McDonald) and Syd Twynham under the name Dream Coupe; after a few shows they signed to Creole Records, a Polo Records subsidiary, and changed their name to Liquid Gold.
Their first single, “Anyway You Do It”, was released in October 1978. It narrowly missed the UK Top 40, peaking at No41, but resulted in their being transferred to Polo for their next release, “My Baby’s Baby”. A remixed version of the song was concurrently released by Parachute Records in the U.S. and became a hit, reaching #5 on the US Club Play charts and #45 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1979. Despite their success in America, however, they never toured the U.S..
In England, their next single was “Mr. Groovy”, which did not chart; it was quickly followed with “Dance Yourself Dizzy”, which became their biggest English hit, peaking at #2 on the UK charts in 1980. The song also reached #26 on the U.S. Club Play charts.
“Synth and Strings”, a 1999 chart hit by Yomanda was based around a sample from “Dance Yourself Dizzy”.

Posted in Diana Ross on August 17th, 2009 by hbradley

“Chain Reaction” is a song by Diana Ross, written by the Bee Gees, who also provided the backing vocals for the single. The track was released on the album Eaten Alive in 1985 and as a single the following year.
The single became her first number 1 single in the UK since I’m Still Waiting in 1971. The song also reached number 1 in Australia and was the top selling single of the year (1986) in that country. The song fared less well in the USA where it initially peaked at number 95 on the Billboard Hot 100 late in 1985. A few months later, a remixed version of the song was issued as a single (Ross performed this version of the song on the American Music Awards, which she hosted that year). The new version re-entered the chart and performed better, but with the diminished momentum, it stalled at number 66.

Madonna – Jump

Posted in Fergie, Madonna on August 11th, 2009 by hbradley

From her tenth studio album Confessions on a Dance Floor “Jump” was to be released as the third single from the album. However, the song “Get Together” was chosen as the third single from the album to coincide with the start of Madonna’s 2006 Confessions Tour.
The decision was also spurred by the fact that “Get Together” was the third best selling digital single from the Confessions on a Dance Floor album. Its digital sales stood at 20,000 at that time, whereas digital sales for “Jump” was only 9,000. Hence, “Get Together” was finally chosen as the third single.
